The term ‘workplace wellbeing’ is starting to give me the ick.
As someone who works in this space for a living, it’s quite the dilemma.
🤨 It’s always been a nebulous term to define, but some of the stuff I’m seeing lately makes my brow furrow even more than usual.
Underneath the plethora of programs and platitudes, there’s a disconnect from the reality of most workplaces.
Rigid rules, outdated systems and antiquated cultures still dominate, and workplace wellbeing initiatives can make the gap between ‘work’ and ‘well’ feel even wider.
Flexible wellbeing programs that help individuals to take ownership of their own wellbeing are incredibly valuable – but there’s no value if it’s just putting lipstick on the pig. 💋 🐖
The best wellbeing programs are those that create new perspectives, cultures and paradigms.
Strategic and signifiant – not superficial.
Do you have the wellbeing ick too? Love to hear your thoughts.
